For the first time ever, two beauties of Bollywood Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra will act together in the Hollywood remake of ‘Bride Wars’. It was one of the blockbusters of Hollywood starring Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway .The news that Katrina had replaced Priyanka in the sequel of ‘Dostana’ sparked the rumours of difference between them.

For the two roles, it is said that there was competition between Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor, Asin, Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone. However according to rumours, Shristi approached Priyanka and Katrina for the roles and both expressed their keen interest in the project as they were able to relate to the characters.

The Priyanka Chopra starrer ‘What’s your Rashee?’ is all set to hit the marquee on September 25th, 2009. The film is directed by ace director Ashutosh Gowarikar premiered at the prestigious Toronto Film Festival on September 19th and was well received by the audience.

Priyanka Chopra plays 12 roles in the film with each of the role having a characteristic of different sun signs. The film is all about the hero, played by Hurman Baweja, trying to find his life partner in ten days time and hence he picks out a girl from each of the sun sign to make his choice. The director says that he chose a single actress for all the 12 roles because he did not want beauty to take precedence.

Before I did What’s Your Raashee? I would probably read the daily forecast for my zodiac sign if I didn’t have much to do. These days, I turn to the horoscope page the first thing in the morning to read the forecast for all my friends and family. But I also conveniently forget about it within the next half-hour.

You play 12 characters in the film and all are Gujarati. Aren’t there any overlaps?

The characters are all Gujarati and between the age group of 19 and 24, and most of them are educated, so there are similarities. But the differences are all within the realm of these similarities. The 12 characters are distinct from one another not only in terms of looks; I have lent each of them a different set of characteristics in terms of mannerisms, the way they talk or walk. For example, one of them has a thinner voice while one of them has a twisted smile.

Once the director, Ashutosh Gowarikar, had set the tone for the characters, we did a look and video look test for each to see where the characters were overlapping. We then sat down and sorted that out.

Often actors take back home with them the characters they play on-screen. Which one from the dozen stayed with you?

I would even dream of them! And often, at home, I would react to situations like one of my characters, which would make my mother stop and ask me if all was okay. In What’s your Rashee, Priyanka will be seen playing 12 different characters. This will be the first time an actress will portray so many different characters in one movie. The record of the most number of characters an actor has ever played in a movie is held by the legendary British actor Lupino Lane. He played 24 different characters in the 1929 movie called ” Only you”.

Why Gowariker cast Priyanka for 12 roles in ‘…Rashee’

Bollywood director Ashutosh Gowariker, whose “What’s Your Rashee?” premiered at the Toronto Film Festival here Saturday, said he chose Priyanka Chopra to play the role of 12 brides-in-waiting to rule out beauty as a dominant theme in the film.

In “What’s Your Rashee?” (What’s your sun sign?), which is based on Madhu Rye’s Gujarati novel “Kimball Ravenswood”, Priyanka plays the role of 12 girls who meet bride-hunting NRI Yogesh Patel played by Hurman Baweja.

Yogesh, who has been flown in from Chicago by his parents to get married within just 10 days on the advice of the family astrologer, gets responses to his matrimonial advertisement from 165 girls. But since he cannot meet all of them in 10 days, he picks one from each sun sign to meet.

Capricorn girl’s role in ‘…Rashee’ was toughest: Priyanka

Priyanka Chopra, who is eyeing a Guinness record by playing 12 brides-in-waiting in Ashutosh Gowariker’s “What’s Your Rashee?”, says this is one feat she would love to tell her grandchildren about. The actress revealed that playing the Capricorn teenager was the most difficult of all the roles.

In “What’s Your Rashee?”, which is based on Madhu Rye’s Gujarati novel “Kimball Ravenswood”, Priyanka plays the roles of 12 girls who meet bride-hunting NRI Yogesh Patel played by Hurman Baweja.

“The role of the Capricorn girl was toughest for me,” said the actress, who walked the red carpet at the ongoing Toronto International Film Festival here Saturday with co-star Hurman and Gowariker.
