Priyanka Chopra does her bit for children
Priyanka Chopra will be seen sporting a ring, a present received by the Bollywood actress for pledging her support to Save the Children’s ‘Rewrite the Future’ campaign on Monday in Mumbai
Speaking further about the cause of empowering needy children, Priyanka observes that she has always had a social conscience. “My parents are doctors so I remember when I was as young as 10 years old, I would accompany them on the monthly medical camp that they would conduct in the small villages neighboring Bareilly. So I have been exposed to the plight of needy children since a young age,” she says, adding that she had her own ‘rewrite the future’ moment when she won the Miss India and then the Miss World crown in her teens.
She further explains how education is of utmost importance for children. “Education is the key to empowerment and that’s the reason why I chose to support this education-driven campaign called ‘Rewrite the Future’. I have been working with several NGOs aimed at empowering women and children for some time, but I haven’t made a big deal about it as I feel it’s a personal experience. That said, there are other NGOs like Save The Children where I use my celeb status to increase awareness. Whatever be the case, I do a fair share of research before agreeing to support it,” ends Priyanka.
Priyanka thinks she grew up fast ever since she won the Miss World pageant at age 17.
Priyanka said, “I come from a simple army family and barely winning Miss India wasn’t expected by me or my family. What I knew is when I had to represent myself at the function I had to give my best. I was 17 when I won the title and within 2 months I had to grow up and face people and not get fazed out.”
Miss world is a thing of past, for now, Priyanka has her fingers crossed for her forthcoming release What\’s your Rashee. In the film, she plays 12 different characters, a feat that’s got her name in the Guinness book of world records.
“I’m am looking forward to it , it’s a long process they have to see the film and then take a call. From what the officials are saying, it would be announced before the film releases, so fingers crossed, I would show it to my grand children and tell them this is what you granny was”, She quipped.
