Rani, Priyanka to rub shoulders with Playboy founder as TIFF guests

Toronto: The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) that is scheduled for September will have Bollywood directors Ashutosh Gowariker and Anurag Singh and stars Rani Mukherjee, Priyanka Chopra, Lisa Ray and Harman Baweja.

They will rub shoulders with George Clooney, Demi Moore, Playboy founder Hugh Hefner and talk show queen Oprah Winfrey at this year’s TIFF.

From September 10 to 19, the 34th annual mega-film show will run.

World premier of the Anurag Singh’s “Dil Bole Hadippa” and Ashutosh Gowariker’s “What’s Your Rashee?” will also be made at the festival.

The organizers have announced the mega list of 500 guests, including directors, producers, and actors. The final list includes daytime TV talk show queen Oprah Winfrey, Playboy founder Hugh Hefner and Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson.

Nicolas Cage, Sir Ridley Scott, Drew Barrymore, Kevin Spacey, Michael Douglas, Penelope Cruz and Keanu Reeves are other big names in the list.

From Bollywood, Gowariker, Anurag Singh, Priyanka Chopra, Baweja, Rani Mukherjee, Lisa Ray, Abhay Deol, filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta, Deepa Mehta’s brother Dilip Mehta, and documentary maker Vikram Jayanti are in the guests’ list.

The two Bollywood films, including Shahid Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee starrer “Dil Bole Hadippa” and Priyanka Chopra and Harman Baweja starrer “What’s Your Rashee?”, are among 335 from 64 countries to be screened at the festival.

“Dil Bole Hadippa”, a hilarious drama-comedy with Shahid Kapoor (Rohan) and Rani Mukherjee (Veera Kaur) in lead roles, will hit silver screen on September 18 in India. Anupam Kher, Dalip Tahil, Rakhee Sawant and Sherlyn Chopra are also in the movie.

Based on Gujarati novel Kimball Ravenswood by Madhu Arya, “What’s Your Rashee?” is a romantic comedy, featuring Priyanka Chopra and Harman Baweja.

Of the films to be screened here, about 72 per cent of the films will make their world or North American premieres.

As many as 71 directors will make their debut at the film festival, including Drew Barrymore with her comedy film “Whip It!”, said the organizers.

Last year, Deepa Mehta’s “Heaven on Earth” had its world premiere at the festival. Among others which had the gala premier at the festival were Anees Bazmee’s hit “Singh is Kingg” and Nandita Das’s directorial debut “Firaaq”.
