Despite the fact the her movie Fashion didn’t premiere at the Middle East International Film Festival after all – due to post-production problems - Priyanka Chopra fulfilled her obligation to attend anyway, and she’s glad she did.

She met a host of stars at the Festival in Dubai including Meg Ryan, Antonio Banderas and his wife Melanie Griffiths. She sat with the latter pair at a movie premiere and was said to have been charmed by Antonio – I imagine he was pretty charmed by her as well. “I did spend come time chatting with Antonio and his wife Melanie,” she says, “We sat together at the opening. Antonio was extremely charming. He was familiar with the Bollywood film industry and the financial leaps it has made in recent years.”

It would be great to see Antonio in a Bollywood movie – perhaps Priyanka could persuade him. Meanwhile, Priyanka is back home looking forward to the launch of her next two movies Fashion and Dostana. Elements of controversy surround both these films. The fashion industry is said to be worried that Fashion will show them in a bad light but Priyanka disagrees “There’s no hidden agenda in Fashion,” she explains, “It’s no big exposé. It’s an emotional tale and the story of three girls — very endearing. It shows female bonding in a beautiful way, something not shown in film industry for long.”

There are also some who find the gay elements in Dostana controversial but here Priyanka has pinned her colours firmly to the mast declaring that she fully supports gay pride: “I am all for gay rights and pride,” she declares, “We live in a democratic society. We have cultures and tradition, but we also value our individuality. It’s about being, and letting other people be.”
