While his latest film, Welcome to Sajjanpur, has received immense praise from critics, Shyam Benegal is toying with the idea of kickstaring a film named Chamki, which he had planned a few years ago. Recall that the film was earlier called Chamki Chameli and the title role was offered to Kareena Kapoor, Urmila Matondnakar and Priyanka Chopra, according to Mumbai Mirror.

Mumbai Mirror also reports that the film is being revamped, this time as a musical, and Benegal will be teaming up with Javed Akhtar and A.R. Rahman for the music. Though Kareena is still reportedly in consideration, Priyanka claims that she is keen to do the project. She told Mumbai Mirror, “I had read the script ages ago. The whole project has to be evaluated afresh. And who wouldn’t want to work with Shyam Benegal?” Amen to that! The director, who is mostly known for his offbeat but brilliant films, recently extracted fantastic performances from Shreyas Talpade, Amrita Rao and the rest of the cast of his latest film.
