Choreographer Saroj Khan will soon be donning the director’s cap for a Hindi film. All set to get her first Hindi flick, titled, Sati-A Burning Desire to Love , on the floor, the queen of choreography seems pretty excited. Refusing to divulge any details of the film, all she is willing to say is that the story will be woman-oriented . “The story is still being written at this stage and the details are being worked out,” she adds.
So has she zeroed in on the star cast? Being guarded about this too, she says, “Priyanka Chopra will play the protagonist. She was definitely my first choice for the film, as she has all the attributes required, to carry off a role in a woman dominated flick.” Saroj refuses to even discuss her one-time favourite Madhuri Dixit and why she is not doing the film.
Since an ace choreographer is calling the shots, can we safely presume that dance will be an essential feature of the film? It’s here that Saroj surprises us with her answer. She says, “Dancing will not be an essential feature of my film.” Ask her how directing this movie will be different from her directorial debut with a Bhojpuri film called Dil Diwana Tohar and pat comes the reply, “It is too premature to say anything about it. Let me give it a try first. Dil Diwana Tohar was a nice experience and I am sure I will only learn from the mistakes I made then.”
The actual work on the film will commence in August. Till then, the choreographer-turned director asks us to “wait and watch”.
