Priyanka Chopra bagged the Miss World 2000 title at London’s Millennium Dome. She was the fifth Miss India to have won the Miss World title.
And, like Miss World Aishwarya Rai before her, Priyanka blazed a mercurial trail in Bollywood a short while later. Never one to forget her debt to the Femina Miss India pageant, here the attractive and sultry actor explains winning strategies to the Pantaloons Femina Miss India 2007 hopefuls…
You can do it:
I was an Engineering student and was often immersed in books. But when Sushmita Sen was crowned Miss Universe, she looked so young that I felt excited and confident about going for the coveted title.
Have fun:
Relax! Don’t be consumed by the thought of winning the crown. Allow yourself to experience all aspects of the pageant. Just overcome your mental blocks.
Follow the experts:
The grooming experts know what they are talking. So, pay attention to their words and take their feedback constructively.
Stay well:
Don’t party excessively and don’t keep up late. Drink lots of water and remember, the beauty and fitness tips from the grooming panel can be carried forward in life.
Maintain composure:
It’s natural to feel like a bundle of nerves when you are up there on stage. Make sure you scream when you get backstage! It helps release all the pent up energy and frustration, so when you get back on stage, you are calm and collected. Be poised and comfortable with yourself, so that it reflects when you’re on stage.
Use this is a stepping stone:
This pageant is definitely a stepping stone. It gives you a whole lot of opportunities and opens up new avenues. In the end, however, it’s your hard work and dedication to your chosen career that will catapult you into the big league.
Patience pays:
Hemant Trevedi was grooming me during my pageant training and teaching me to walk on high heels, that too in saris. He went crazy as I would just keep falling. The entire process taught me patience, a great deal of it.
Don’t fake it:
Have fun, enjoy the experience and just be yourself. The harder you try, the more fake it looks. The more serious you get about winning the crown, the more artificial it sounds. You have to be true from your gut and ‘feel’what you say. ‘Be real’is my magic mantra!
